HONORABLE GEORGE C. STANZEL

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee appointed to prepare resolutions commemorative of the life, character and public services of the late George C. Stanzel, of Sac county, Iowa, beg leave to submit the following report:

George C. Stanzel was born in Clinton county, Iowa, on August 31, 1865. He moved to Sac county with his parents in the year 1876 and was educated in the public schools of that county. He passed away at his home in Sac City on April 18, 1935, after a lingering illness of several months.

He was united in marriage on February 19, 1894, to Miss Carrie Fulcher, who with their three children, Mrs. Florence M. Laudon, George A. Stanzel, and Fred E. Stanzel, mourn the death of their beloved husband and father.

Mr. Stanzel’s interests have been primarily those of farming and although he retired from active farm work a number of years ago, he owns considerable Sac county land and gave it his individual attention.

In politics Mr. Stanzel was a republican and served as representative from Sac county in the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth General Assemblies and in the Forty-fifth Extra Session. He also served as treasurer of the school board of Sac City, was a member of the city council, and a member of the K. P. Lodge.

Mr. Stanzel took an active interest in community affairs and held the highest regard and esteem of his fellowmen. He was a faithful public servant, always giving the best he had for the good of the greatest number of people. He was a kind and loving husband and father, devoted to making the home life as comfortable and as happy as possible for those dependent upon him. He was an attendant of the Methodist church and gave of his time and substance unstintingly.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Forty-sixth General Assembly, That in the passing of the Honorable George C. Stanzel, the state has lost a valuable and honored citizen, and the House would tender by this resolution, its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of the family in their sorrow, and

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
