CHRISTIAN GRELL

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare resolutions commemorating the life, character and public services of the late Honorable Christian Grell, of Scott county, Iowa, begs leave to submit the following report:

Christian Grell was born in Allen’s Grove township, Scott county, Iowa, on August 19, 1878, of German and Swiss descent, and died on March 6, 1942. He was educated in the common school, having attended school only during winter months after ten years of age, but continued an annual review of the work for several years by attending school after having graduated in the eighth grade at the age of fourteen. He was active in community athletics, social and literary activities, accepting the faith of Christian Science Religion.

Mr. Grell was married on February 28, 1906, to Miss Alice A. Mohr, and they reared a family of four girls and three boys. He was engaged in agricultural pursuit of farming, stock feeding and dairying, and later in saw milling as a side line, specializing in manual training and farm machinery repair stock. He was a member of the local school board and held the office of the Justice of the Peace for some twenty years. He was a charter member of the Farm Bureau and a member of the County Board of Supervisors for many years. He served as county president of the Farmers Educational and Co-operative Union of Scott County for five years. He sponsored the Farmers Protective Association of Iowa.

Mr. Grell was elected Representative from Scott county in November, 1932, and served in the Forty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa and the Forty-fifth Extra Session. Mr. Grell was a conscientious and capable member of the body and was beloved by all his associates.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fiftieth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Christian Grell, the state has lost a most valued and honorable citizen and the House would tender, by this resolution, its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow; and

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
