Was educated in the public schools of Monroe county and Western Normal College of Shenandoah, Iowa, and taught school for twelve years. Was married February 15, 1898, to Ellen G. Coughlin at Georgetown, Iowa, and has four sons: L. A., in partnership with him in retail lumber business at Albia, F. P., an attorney at Albia, John D. with the Continental Illinois National bank of Chicago, and Paul J., a student at Harvard University. Was president of the Iowa Trust & Savings bank of Albia and has been in the lumber business in Albia for thirty-five years. Serving first term in the legislature. A democrat.
