Cherokee County
Representative from Cherokee county, was born in West Thorsos Parish, Kronobergs Lan., Sweden, December 21, 1873. He received what education was there afforded in the public and parochial schools during boyhood up till immigrating to United States at the age of seventeen in April, 1891. He came to Cherokee county in Iowa in May of that year and maintained residence in the county so that when the necessary five years had elapsed, he was granted citizenship papers at the first term of court held there in September, 1896, presided over by Judge Scott M. Ladd, later justice of the supreme court. In 1899, he was married to Marie Erikson, to which union eight children were born our sons and four daughters. In 1919, he sustained the loss of his wife but kept the family together giving them all a four-year course in the Cherokee high school. Has lived on and farmed the same place in Pilot township since purchasing it twenty-five years ago. Served as school director seventeen years and as trustee several years. Was member of board of supervisors in 1927-8-9. Affiliated with Methodist Episcopal church, the York Rite Masonic orders, Eastern Star, Shrine, I.O.O.F., Rebeccas, Charter member of Cherokee county farm bureau, three years its treasurer, and a good will member of Cherokee chamber of commerce. Politics republican.
