HARRY MARTIN GREENE

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Harry Martin Greene, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Harry Martin Greene was born near Avoca, Iowa, on September 6, 1882, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Cass Greene. He passed away at his home on May 19, 1953.

He graduated from the Avoca High School in 1900, and the University of Iowa law school in 1906, and was admitted to the Bar the same year.

Mr. Greene served in France in World War I. He was in Company L of the 168th Infantry for 24 months and was twice wounded. He was a charter member and first commander of Fred Funston Post, American Legion at Avoca; and a member of Rainbow chapter of the Disabled Veterans of Council Bluffs. He was active in the Masonic order and the Elks.

Mr. Greene served as State Representative from Pottawattamie County in the Forty-second, Forty-second Extra, Forty-third and Forty-fourth General Assemblies. He was a zealous advocate of good roads and named as a member of the State Highway Commission, serving a four-year term, ending in 1939.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Greene.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Harry Martin Greene, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
