Representative from Hamilton county, was born at Brooklyn, Poweshiek county, the youngest of eight children, four boys and four girls, six of whom are still alive. Martin and Catherine Snyder, the parents, were Pennsylvania Dutch and came to Brooklyn in the early fifties where the father was a merchant and farm owner until 1874 and then the collapse after the Civil war swept everything away. Frank G. attended public school at Brooklyn, Toledo and Conrad, later paying his own way at Mt. Morris, Illinois, college. In 1888 engaged in the general merchandise business with his brother-in-law at Eldora. In 1891 he went into the general merchandise business for himself at Jewell, Hamilton county. He built and owned the Jewell Brick and Tile plant, was president and manager of the Jewell Telephone company and Jewell gas plant. Served as mayor and member of board of education. In 1909 sold his stock of merchandise, taking the agency for Ford cars in Hamilton and Hardin counties, which business he still continues at Webster City. Married Mabel Farrow, of Eldora, in 1891. Two sons, Richard F. and Frank G., Jr., graduates of Ames and Iowa City, both of whom volunteered and served in World war. Now in business at Saginaw, Mich. Representative Snyder also served in World war, going over in 1918. He was officer in charge of the "Croix Rouge American" base warehouse at Gievres, Loire-et-Cher, France. He came home in 1919 with the rank of major. Member of Edward McKey post, 925, Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Masonic order and Eastern Star. Trustee and secretary of Hamilton county public hospital. Rotarian, director in First National Bank, Webster City. Farm owner, member Hamilton county farm bureau. Member of Congregational church. Elected to legislature in 1930. A republican.
