Representative from Mahaska county, was born near Barnesville, Belmont county, Ohio, February 22nd, 1870. Here he grew to manhood. He came to Rose Hill, Mahaska county, Iowa, June 27th, 1894, and resided there until 1911 when he moved to Oskaloosa, having been elected sheriff of Mahaska county. In this capacity, he served two terms. During his residence in Rose Hill, he served four years as mayor and six years as justice of the peace. Since 1898 has been actively engaged in the occupation of auctioneer except while he was sheriff. Has conducted purebred livestock sales in several states. For many years he has filled the capacity of judge of livestock in both state and international shows. Is also well known, not only in Iowa, but throughout the United States and Canada, because of his fraternal relations, especially those pertaining to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which order he became a member in 1898. During the years 1929 and 1930, he was Supreme Monarchos of The Ancient Mystic Order of Samaritans of the United States and Canada. This is the play ground order for Odd Fellows. Also a member of the Masonic order. A democrat.
