He married Effie Troutman of Blairstown, on January 30, 1890. To this union, four sons were born: Clarence E., Orlo H., Jesse, and Marvin W. The couple observed their sixty-eighth wedding anniversary in January, 1958.

The Smiths farmed near Paullina until their retirement in 1920.

Mr. Smith’s wife preceded him in death by less than four months, having passed away November 5, 1958. One son, Jesse, passed away in 1918.

Surviving him are three sons: Clarence E. and Orlo H. of Estherville, and Marvin W. of Paullina; fourteen grandchildren and forty-five greatgrandchildren.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fiftyeighth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable George Wesley Smith the people of O’Brien county and the entire state of Iowa have sustained a great loss and the House expresses its appreciation of his character and public service and tenders, by this resolution, its sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his beloved family in their great sorrow and loss.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
