HONORABLE J. W. ROBERTS

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee appointed to prepare suitable resolutions, commemorating the life and service of the Honorable J. W. Roberts, late of Adair county, Iowa, beg leave to submit the following memorial:

J. W. Roberts was born in Adair county, Iowa, July 9, 1861, and passed away at the family residence in Grand River Township, Greenfield, Iowa, on July 10, 1936.

Mr. Roberts during his life was prominent in his county serving as township officer, county recorder during the years of 1903 to 1909 and in the Forty-first and Forty-second General Assemblies of the State Legislature.

At the age of 25, he was united in marriage to Eva Jane Tullis. To them were born three children, two sons and a daughter, James and Lloyd Roberts, who resides near Greenfield and Mrs. Olie Grace Hoyt, who resides in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The grandchildren are Donald, Mildred, Robert and Roberta Hoyt and Betty Darlene Roberts.

Mr. Roberts was a resident of Grand River township for 58 years, served his community and state and served them well, and Iowa has lost a most valuable citizen.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Forty-seventh General Assembly, That in the passing of the Honorable J. W. Roberts the state has lost an honored citizen, a man of high ideals in brotherly living and useful citizenship.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
