William Carroll Means

William Carroll Means was born on November 22, 1818, in the Louisiana Territory, in what is now Chariton County, Missouri. In 1850, he moved to Page County, Iowa. From 1852 to 1854, he represented Page County as a member of the legislature, which was then held in Iowa City. In 1853, he relocated to Montgomery County, where he lived for 29 years. He later moved to Adams County, where he preached for more than 20 years. In 1837 he married Anna Irwin. After Anna’s death in 1857, he married Louisa J. Baker later that same year. William was both a minister and a farmer. In 1881, he moved from Iowa to Greenwood County, Kansas.
