Born in Fleming County, Kentucky, October 19, 1807 and removed with his parents to Indiana when it was a wilderness in the early twenties. He was married to Mary Morrow on the 9 day of December 1829 and had 18 children. In 1852 he was elected to the Legislature of Iowa which was the last legislature held in Iowa City. He voted first for Oskaloosa and then for Des Moines for the new capital and also voted for George G. Wright for United States Senator in which contest, however George W. Jones was elected for the last time, at which time Hempstead was Governor. He was a Whig and ran against Hon. Joseph H. Flint, the wheel horse of Wapello County Democracy for a quarter of a century and unquestionably the ablest speaker who ever canvassed Wapello County for that party. They canvased together and spoke in every precinct and in every school house in the county and Hedrick received 745 votes to 719 for Flint, giving the former 26 majority, which was considered a decoded triumph for Hedrick and the Whigs. He served in the session of 1852-1853 when there was corporal’s guard of Whigs, Grimes, Shellady, Browning and Goodrell being with himself among the prominent ones. One of his sons was John Morrow Hedrick was a Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General.
