Representative from Davis county, was born in Davis county, December 6, 1862. Parents born in Virginia, Scotch-Irish descent, moved to Davis county, 1843. He grew to manhood on his father's farm; attended rural school, high school and Southern Iowa Normal college at Bloomfield, Iowa. Engaged in grain and mercantile business from 1885 to 1896. Was elected sheriff in 1897, re-elected 1899. Engaged in farming since 1900. He is a director of the Davis County Savings bank. He is a member of Farm Bureau Farm Institutes, and secretary of the Davis County fair. Was married to Pearl Davies, February 25, 1885. Member of Christian church, Mason, K. of P., and Modern Woodman. Elected representative 1918 and 1920. A democrat in politics.
