Representative from Pottawattamie county. Was born in East Dubuque, Ill., December 10, 1875. Educated in the common and high schools of East Dubuque. His father was the inventor and manufacturer of the Badger corn cultivator, one of the first successful riding cultivators made. On August, 1892, the business moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mr. Children worked in the factory of the same, then known as E. Children & Sons, until his father's death in 1900 when the business was incorporated under the name of E. Children's Sons Manufacturing Company with W. C. Children as president. He also being superintendent of the factory, which position he held until 1907. In 1901 he purchased a farm in Lewis township. He was married to Elizabeth Carter of Lawrence, Kan. in 1902. In 1904 he moved to the farm and since 1907 has given his entire attention to farming and politics. His wife died in 1909. He has two children, a daughter, Lois Mabel, aged 18, and a son, Edwin William, aged 14. He was a member of the board of supervisors of Pottawattamie county from 1911 to 1914. He has given particular attention to the raising of Shorthorn cattle since 1907. In 1915 he purchased 280 acres in Keg Creek township, where he has made his home since. Has been a member of the Pottawattamie County Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance association, also vice president and has been president since October, 1919. Was elected vice president of the West Pottawattamie Farm Bureau on its organization in 1918 and has held the office since. Was elected representative in 1920 as republican.
