MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life and public service of the late Honorable Ray P. Scott, submits the following report:

Ray P. Scott was born in North Eaton, Ohio, on June 8, 1884, and died at Evangelical Hospital, Marshalltown, Iowa, on March 9, 1955, after an illness of nearly two years. He had been a resident of Marshalltown since 1899. He was the son of the Rev. William H. and Laura E. Scott. He was graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1902 and from Drake University in 1909. He served as County Attorney of Marshall County from 1914 to 1918. He was married to Kate Timmons in Marietta, on December 26, 1922. He was a member of Marshall Lodge No. 108 A.F. & A.M., signet Chapter No. 38 R.A.M., King Solomon Council No. 20, St. Aldemar Commandery No. 40, Central Chapter No. 67 O.E.S. He was a member of the Consistory in Cedar Rapids and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Des Moines and Madon Shrine No. 38 White Shrine of Jersusalem.

Mr. Scott was a member of Central Christian Church of Christ. He served as president of the Iowa Christian Missionary Society from 1931 in 1949. He was a member of the Marshalltown Chapter of Izaak Walton League.

Mr. Scott served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1918 to 1920, during the Thirty-eighth General Assembly. He served as a member of the Senate from 1920 to 1924, the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth General Assemblies.

He is survived by Mrs. Scott, a brother, Winfield W. Scott, and a sister, Miss Lola G. Scott.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly: That in the passing of the Honorable Ray P. Scott, the state has lost one who has always been very active in public affairs and kept interested in and well informed on political matters. The Senate tenders by this resolution its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread on the Journal of the Senate, and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to members of the family of the deceased.
