Representative from Cherokee county, Iowa, was born in the city of Albany, N.Y., November 1, 1853, of Scotch-Irish parentage. When he was one and one-half years old his parents moved to Benton county, Iowa, locating at Vinton and later settled on a farm near Mt. Auburn. Was educated in the district schools and Tilford Academy. Was married November 13, 1878, at Vinton, Iowa, to Miss Ellen L. Joyce. Moved to Cherokee county, Iowa, in the spring of 1879 and settled on a farm. Taught school three winters in Benton county, and five years in Cherokee county. Was elected county auditor in 1906 and continued-in office until January,. 1913. Is a member of all branches of the I.O.O.F. and B.A.Y. A republican in politics.
