Fayette County

Representative from Fayette county, is of American parentage. His parents were descendants of the Dutch that settled in the Mohawk valley, in the state of New York, in the early colonial times. They came to Iowa in 1856 and settled on the land, on which a part of the town of Arlington, Fayette county, is now located. As he grew to manhood he took up the work of farming and stock raising, which he followed until 1902, when he sold the farm and moved into town, and has since been engaged in real estate business. He has always taken a lively interest in public affairs, having served several terms as assessor and township trustee, and was a member of the board of education over twenty years. In 1902 he was elected a member of the board of supervisors of Fayette county, which office he held until January 1, 1916. In the fall of 1916 was elected representative. Married in 1880 to Miss Velma E. Doane who died in 1884. In 1889 was married to Miss Mary G. Hutchison. A republican in politics.
