Representative from Jones county in the thirty-seventh general assembly; was born at Millville, Clayton county, Iowa, February 7, 1859. Attended the rural schools in Clayton county, and also the Elkader high school. Lived on a farm until twenty years old when he moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he entered the machine shop of the N. C. Thompson Manufacturing company for two years, leaving there and going to Springfield, Illinois, entering the Illinois Watch factory for a couple of years, leaving there with others who were starting what was known as the Aurora Watch company of Aurora, Illinois, where he remained until the winter of 1892 when he entered a co-partnership with W. J. Creglow and D. W. Hurst, starting what was known as the Bank of Delmar, Delmar, Iowa, of which he was cashier for seven years, selling out and moving to Olin, Iowa, where he organized the Citizens Savings Bank in 1899, acting as cashier up to the present time. The past few years he has been quite extensively interested in buying and selling real estate. Has always been a republican in politics.
