Representative from Polk county, was born in county Surey, England, February 3, 1848. When he was six years old he was brought to America by his parents who settled in Wayne county, Indiana, and two years later moved to Iowa, where he has since resided. His education was limited to that procured during the winter months in the rural schools of Iowa and in later years by a night course in a business college. Was in the bakery and restaurant business for forty years in Des Moines. Married Miss Martha Berry of Polk county, May 16, 1872, and to them have been born six children of whom five are living. Elected representative in 1914. A republican in politics.
