Representative from Davis county, was born July 16, 1878, near Douds-Leando in Van Buren county, Iowa. His parents were American born. He attended the common schools and also Highland Park College of Des Moines. During the Spanish-American war, enlisted in L troop, Third United States cavalry, served nine months within the United States, it happening that his troop was not sent to the scene of the trouble. Returning to Iowa in 1899, he assisted his father in the operation of a coal mine for three years near Douds, quitting this work when he was appointed postmaster in 1902. Served as postmaster until 1905, when he was elected assistant cashier of the Douds-Leando Savings Bank, resigning that position the same year and assisting in the organization of the Floris Savings Bank of Floris, Iowa, of which he is now cashier. He was united in marriage on January 29, 1903, to Miss Mabel Charlotte Ferris. To them has been born one daughter. Elected representative in 1912. A republican in politics.
