Marion County
Representative from Marion county, was born in Kosciusko county, Indiana, April 3, 1856. His parents were American-born. His education was limited to that procured during the winter months in the rural schools of his native state. In 1876 he left home and came to Marion county, Iowa, where he worked at the carpenter trade for a year or two, after which he engaged in farming for twenty-five years. In 1901 he was elected sheriff of Marion county and served for five years. Since 1908 he has been engaged in the furniture and undertaking business in Knoxville. He has held various township, city and school offices in his county and town. Was chairman of the republican county central committee in 1907. Is married and has seven children, three boys and four girls. Was elected Representative in 1910. A Republican in politics.
