Representative from Dubuque county, was born of German parentage September 19, 1852, in Quincy, Illinois. In fall of 1855 came with his parents to Dubuque county and lived in Liberty township until 1864, then moved with his parents to New Wine township. Attended rural and parochial schools, also St. Francis College for two terms. Taught school for two terms. Married Miss Anna Burkle October 18, 1877, in Dyersville, since that time has lived on a farm. Has thirteen children, seven boys and six girls, all living. Was township clerk for twelve years. Elected Representative in 1908. A Catholic in religion. A Democrat in politics.
