Floyd County

Representative from Floyd county, was born at Marble Rock, Iowa, July 28, 1870. His parents, of Scotch-English ancestry, settled on a farm in Floyd county in 1856. Worked on the farm until he was twenty-two years of age, when he entered the teacher's profession, which he followed for a period of ten years. He acquired his education in Marble Rock public schools, Charles City College and Iowa State Normal School. Served as principal of Aurora public schools 1899-1900 and of Coggon public schools 1900-1902, when he was chosen president of Linn County Teachers' Association. Was married to Miss Viola Clay of Adair, Iowa, in 1893, and has four children, three boys and one girl. Returned to Floyd county in 1902, assisting his father in management of the farm, yet devoting considerable time to school and ministerial labors. Elected Representative in 1906, and re-elected in 1908. A Republican in politics.
