Representative from Union county, was born in Bristol county Massachusetts, on May 27, 1843, and received a common school and academic education in his native town. Since 1870 he has been a continuous resident of Union county and has been identified with its religious, educational, social and business affairs. Has been largely interested in farming, purchasing and improving several hundred acres of prairie land and giving much attention to the breeding and improving of thoroughbred farm animals. Was several times director and president of the district Agricultural Fair Association. In 1870, at the organization of Grant township and the first election, he was elected to office and during the twenty-five years he lived on the farm he was almost continually in some official position, filling nearly every township office. Served six years as County Supervisor, ten years Justice of the Peace and twenty years as member of the school board. Moved from the farm to Creston, the county seat, in 1894, and in addition to other business interests established the real estate firm of Geo. A. Ide & Son. Since becoming a resident of Creston, he has been County Treasurer two terms, and at the present time is president of the Old Settlers' Association. Is the compiler of a history of Union county. Elected Representative in 1908. A Republican in politics.
