Senator from the Ninth District, composed of Des Moines county. Born of New England parentage near the village of Pleasant Grove in above named county. Was educated in the rural schools of the county, finished with a course in Denmark Academy of Lee county, Iowa. Has been for years actively engaged in farming, raising, feeding and shipping stock, also the buying, storing and shipping of grain. Is president of the Des Moines County Mutual Fire Insurance Association and has also been engaged in banking for the past twelve years. Has served as school treasurer and township trustee. Was elected Representative in 1899, serving through the Twenty-eighth General Assembly. Elected Senator in 1901 and re-elected in 1906, serving through the Twenty-ninth, Thirtieth, Thirty-first, and Thirty-second General Assemblies.
