Born in New London, Connecticut, October 9, 1822. Mr. Leffingwell located at DeWitt in 1845. He resided in the state for several years previous; later removed to Lyons and from there to Chicago and practiced in Chicago until his death. He was one of the most noted orators the state ever had. He was a member of the first General Assembly, in the House, and in the Senate of the third and fourth General Assemblies. In 1853-54 he was district judge. In 1861 he enlisted and was captain of Company B, First Iowa Cavalry
