Daniel Hiel Young
Delaware County
A man with a number of years of legislative experience is the senator from Delaware, Hon. D. H. Young, of Manchester. He is a native of that town, born January 9, 1857, his parents being pioneer residents of the county. Completing the course at the public schools of Manchester, he entered the State university, where he took a special course in civil engineering. In his practical business life he has been engaged in engineering and contracting, paying special attention to bridge contracts. He has made an enviable success of his avocation. He was a member of the house of the Twenty-fifth General Assembly, where he paid considerable attention to legislation pertaining to the improvement of public highways. His position in the senate gave him more ample opportunity on the question, and he succeeded in having bills passed which make an excellent foundation for permanent work in that improvement to the state. He is popular with his colleagues to the extent that he is "Dan" to them on all occasions. His wife visits him during the winters, and has many pleasant acquaintances throughout the state. Last year he served as chairman of the committee on congressional and judicial districts, and acted on the committees on railways, agriculture, insurance, highways, public buildings, horticulture and forestry, and fish and game.
