Born in 1841, in Juniata County, Pennsylvania. Robert moved to Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa in 1867. He married Jennie L. Curtis, at Avoca. In 1875, he formed, in partnership with Mr. Strugant, an agricultural implements business. In addition, Robert ran a 240-acre farm near Avoca. He died on November 6, 1922. In 1886, he served in the 21st Iowa State Legislature as representative of House District 21. He was elected on November 3, 1885 and re-elected on November 8, 1887.
