Andrew Matthew Duus

Born in Denmark on October 24 1849. In 1870 he came to America and directly to LeMars, where he found a position working in a general store. After working in LeMars for two years, Mr. Duus opened his own general store in Hospers and also conducted an insurance agency. He was united in marriage on October 9, 1873, to Grace Wynia. In 1876, he and his brother engaged in the implement business and at the same time conducted the insurance agency until the fall of 1879, when Mr. Duus was elected county auditor. In the fall of 1887 he was elected representative of this county on the democratic ticket. He served in this capacity for one term. Mr. Duos was a member of the Masonic order, the Elks lodge and the Modern Woodmen. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and since moving to LeMars attended the Presbyterian Church.
