Charles Luther Anderson
Warren County
Born in Maryland, March 22, 1827. When a few years old his parents moved to Ohio and located in Knox county, where he grew to manhood on a farm. In the fall of 1850 he came to Iowa and settled in Warren county, then called Polk county. In the spring of 1852 he went to Hartford, and in I855 was married to Miss Ellen Morgan. She passed away in 1860. When the civil war began he was the first man from his township (Richland) to enlist, and he joined the first company from Warren county. He was at once elected first sergeant, which position he held until May, 1862, when he was commissioned second lieutenant of the company. He was in some of the severest battles of the war. He was honorably discharged in April of 1965. For many years he with his family lived near Hartford. Then they resided in Indianola for 10 years before moving to Knoxville 5 years ago. During all the active years of his life Mr. Anderson took a keen interest in public affairs and was a leading factor in his community. He was a republican in politics and represented Warren county in the 21st and 22d general assemblies, with credit In himself and to his district.
