Defiance Brooks Davidson was born October 1850 in Ohio. He was a teacher in Dallas County, Iowa, before moving to Madrid, Iowa, where he was a merchant and mayor of Madrid from 1884 to 1887. He married Jennie Peterson on March 17, 1872, in Boone, Iowa. She died at the age of 29 in 1883 in Madrid. He married Virginia Kelly Sullivan on November 4, 1885, in Polk County. He was deputy state treasurer from 1893 until 1897. By 1910, they had moved to Benton County, Arkansas, where he was a florist and operated a commercial greenhouse. He died February 2, 1940, in Centerton, Arkansas.
