Born September 8, 1799, in Beaver County, PA. He came from Pennsylvania and settled at Summitville, Lee County, Iowa. He bought land and became prominent and influential. He was called "Colonel Sprott," a militia title from Pennsylvania. He was elected to represent Lee County in the First and Second Iowa General Assemblies, 1846-48. He brought blooded sheep into Lee county, and did much to improve the general stock level at that time. He also served three terms in the Pennsylvania House before coming to Iowa. He was a Whig in politics.
