Moses C. Jordan
Linn County
Born in Somerset County, Maine. April 30, 1822. His parents moved to Penobscot County when he was about 16 years of age. In the Spring of 1848, he came to this county and purchased the land on which he now lives. After remaining a year, he returned to Penobscot County and married Miss Love Towle, August 30, 1849. Shortly after marriage, they moved to their new home in the West. During the war, he was appointed by the Provost Marshal, to enroll six townships in this county, and was also appointed to notify those drafted. He has sat as juryman in the U. S. District Court, at Des Moines, three times, and once in U. S. Circuit Court at same place. He was elected a member of the Sixteenth General Assembly in 1875. Mr. Jordan was a delegate to every county political convention except one, since he came to the county. He is a Republican and Free-Will Baptist. M. C. Jordan kept the Wapsie Post Office at his own house, from 1852 to 1864, It was the first Post Office this side of Marion.
