Born November 16, 1829, near the town of Bonaparte. Two years later he moved to Lick Creek Township but went back to Bonaparte in the fall of 1848. In the fall of 1854 he was elected sheriff of the county; in 1872 he was elected to the board of supervisors but soon resigned; in 1875 he was elected a member of the state legislature representing Van Buren County.
