He was born in Ross County, Ohio, on September 21, 1823. He came to Wapello County in 1855 and married Elizabeth J. Rose in 1856. He was a member of the legislature for one term, beginning January 1, 1874. He had been a justice of the peace and held other town offices. He was a Republican and Prohibitionist. He was a Spiritualist and medium.
