Born January 21, 1827 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Woodward College in Ohio. He was for many years been a prominent citizen of Benton County. He was elected to the Granger Legislature, and was chairman of the house railroad committee that reported the bill known as the Granger Tariff Law. He married Miss Isabella A. Bromwell in Cincinnati in 1852. He served in the 15th Iowa General Assembly, 1874.
