Born in Lancaster Township, Jefferson County, Indiana in 1844. He served in the Civil War in the 12th Indiana Infantry Company B. He graduated in 1866 from the Miami Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio. He then received an honorary degree from the Indiana Medical College in 1873. He practiced as physician and surgeon, New Sharon Mahaska County, Iowa. He married Matilda Woods (born 1857). Mr. McAllister served as a state representative from Mahaska County in the Fourteenth General Assembly (1872-1873). Dr. McAllister died in Pasadena, California. He was a veteran of the civil war and a member of Pasadena Lodge, F. and A. M.
