Samuel T. Caldwell
Wapello County
Born in Marshall County, Va., on April 25, 1824, and was the son of Van and Elizabeth Caldwell. He was reared on a farm and came to Iowa while it was yet a territory. This was in 1837, and on his arrival here he located in Van Buren County, with his parents. He followed the vocation of a farmer until he attained the age of about thirty-five years, when he embarked in mercantile pursuits and met with more than ordinary success in that venture. He was likewise connected in the banking business. Mr. Caldwell also represented his district in the State Legislature for two terms, and was greatly honored and respected by all who knew him.
