Pierce Granger Wright
Allamakee County
Born in Ontario County, New York, in 1816. His early manhood was spent in Michigan, where privileges, both social and religious were few. He served his fellow citizens for twenty-five years as sheriff and in other capacities. He mingled in all classes of society, and became acquainted with their needs, preparing him for a useful political career in the new state of Iowa, to which he subsequently moved. As a token of their confidence in the kindness of his heart, they entrusted him with the guardianship of their solders' orphans' home. Mr. Wright served in the Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth Iowa General Assemblies, representing Allamakee County. He was a Democrat in politics. He married Prudence Wilder, October 15, 1838, in Columbia, Michigan.
