John M. Cathcart
Marion County
Born in Washington County, Indiana, August 19, 1819. In 1836, when 17 years of age he gave his heart to God, and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was married in the same county to Miss Nancy Sherwood, November 23, 1887. He came to Iowa and purchased a farm in Marion county in 1857. After having lived on the farm about 15 years he removed to Pella, where he was for about 10 years engaged in the grain business. He removed to Knoxville in 1882. Brother Cathcart was a man whom all respected and was chosen by the people of the county to represent them in the Legislature of the State and in the faithful fulfillment of his duties secured the respect of the Legislature and retained the confidence of his constituents.
