James Wilson Beatty

Cedar County

Born near Millersburg, Holmes county, Ohio, April 12, 1829, and there most of his early life was spent. On April 12, 1859, he married Catherine Ritchey. In 1865 they moved to this county and settled on a farm three miles north of Clarence and ten years later moved into town. Mr. Beatty was a man of intelligence, decided convictions, and courageous in the expression of his views. He was a public spirited man, having a deep and active interest in the welfare of the community, and was active in the promotion of any reform beneficial to the public welfare. He was a man in which the public trusted, having been elected to the General Assembly of Iowa two terms, from 1870 to 1874, and was elected a great number of times to offices in the community, and every duty entrusted to him was discharged with promptness, accuracy and integrity. He was raised in the United Presbyterian church and was a lifelong attendant of and adherent to that church.
