For several years he conducted a grist and sawmill and, prospering in his undertakings, he made judicious investments in land, becoming the owner of several farms. In later life he held a position in the pension department at Washington, D. C., for a number of years. He represented Chickasaw county in the Twelfth Iowa General Assembly, 1868.
