Settled in Jasper County in1856, but afterwards removed to Kansas and took part in some of the stirring events that occurred there about that time. Returning to Iowa, he enlisted and served in the war, first as a lieutenant and afterwards as a captain of Co. K. 28th Iowa infantry, He was a good farmer, ever using the, best methods and getting the best result. He was steward of the county Poor Farm for six years, and afterwards filled the same office in Dallas county for three years. He served Jasper county in the legislature and also in other offices.
