Born in Harrison County, Ohio, in 1838. Captain McCullough lived in Glasgow, Iowa. He served in the Civil War and was wounded in the arm. He resigned from service May 23, 1864. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Jefferson County for the 11th General Assembly (1866-1868).
