Born in Indiana October 10, 1832. He came to Mt. Ayr shortly before the war. He enlisted as Captain at the age of 28 on August 9, 1862 at Mount Ayr, Iowa. He was commissioned in Company G of the 29th Iowa Infantry on December 1, 1862, and discharged from the service on December 3, 1863. war. His health failed him, however, and he resigned and returned home, where he resumed his medical practice. He was a representative to the General Assembly, in 1864.
