Born in Mahaska County on November 18, 1837. At the age of twenty he entered the law office of Judge Crookham, and in 1857 he was admitted to the bar at Knoxville, by Hon. William M. Stone, then Judge of the District Court. In 1864 he was married to Miss Josie Rounds, then a resident of this city. Soon after his admission to the bar he removed to Mills County, and assumed fine rank as a lawyer. In 1866 be formed a co-partnership with Hon. John Y. Stone, of Glenwood, which continued until Mr. Hale was appointed as Governor of Wyoming. He twice represented his district in the Iowa House of Representatives. Governor Hale was a man who made friends with all classes, was genial, and great-hearted.
