Webster Ballinger

Born at Barbourville, Ky., on February 25, 1841. He was admitted to the bar in Keokuk, Iowa, in 1865, and practiced law in that state for several years. When only twenty-five years old he was elected a member of the Iowa legislature and he was twice re-elected. In 1873 Senator Ballinger came to the then territory of Colorado, locating in Como. He was a member of the Seventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth general assemblies. Part of the time he was on the Republican side of the house. Then in in later years he has affiliated with the Democrats, having become estranged from the Republicans on account of the money question. He has no superior in the general assembly. Mary L. Morris married Webster Ballinger on September 21, 1866. He died in Colorado on March 11, 1935.
