Born April 19, 1825, in Wayne County, Indiana Mr. Roberts was a civil war veteran enlisting August 22, 1862 as a Private in Co. A., 39th Iowa Infantry. He was captured at Shady Grove and then discharged, June 14, 1865. He married Mary Ann Newton in 1844, in Indiana. Mr. Roberts represented Madison County in the Sixth Iowa General Assembly in the lower house, 1856, and the Tenth Iowa General Assembly, in the Senate 1864. He died January 27, 1867, in Madison County, Iowa.
