Born in Prussia on September 9, 1831. In 1855, he married Ann Murray (1835-1912) in Hancock County, Illinois. They had six children. He was a farmer and a merchant. By 1856 he was living Lee County, Iowa. He was elected to the House of Representatives of the Iowa Legislature for the Tenth General Assembly (1864-1865). W. M. Stone, Governor of the State of Iowa, called an election for November 8th 1864 for the Office of Representative vacated by the removal of Hon. Ferdinand Meissner from the State. By 1880 he had moved to Nevada. He died at age 86 on April 11, 1918, in Lyon County, Nevada.
