Born in Prince William County, Va., July 23, 1830, and died in Keosauqua, Iowa, January 1, 1872. He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Barbour County, West Va., in 1854, and was licensed to preach the same year. On August 5, 1856, he married Mary Ann Walter. In 1858 he was appointed Chaplain First Iowa Cavalry and then Chaplain Third Iowa Cavalry, Keosauqua. In 1863 he represented Van Buren County in the Iowa Legislature. In 1868 and 1870 he was chosen Clerk of that County. He was always cheerful, genial, and kind, and had many friends.
