Mr. Hawk, from the committee appointed to draft resolutions of respect, commemorating the life and work of the late Hon. Salem Jeffries, submitted the following report and resolutions:

MR. SPEAKER—Your committee, appointed to draft resolutions of respect in memory of the Hon. Salem Jeffries of Jasper county, submit the following report:

WHEREAS, The Hon. Salem Jeffries, an honored member of the Tenth General Assembly, departed this life on the 2d day of February, 1900, at his home in Jasper county, Iowa;

Resolved, That in his death he state deplores the loss of a valued citizen, the community an upright, honorable and exemplary member, and his family a kind husband and father whose conscientious and useful life is worthy all commendation.

Resolved, That this body extend to the sorrowing wife and family our most sincere sympathy and respect, and the Chief Clerk is hereby instructed to mail an engrossed copy of these resolutions to the widow of the deceased.

Mr. Hawk moved the adoption of the resolutions.

The motion prevailed by a rising vote, and the resolutions were adopted.
